Taking Back Sunday- Great Romances of the 20th Century

This is beautiful because it’s emo at that point where great songwriting meets “not having good enough sense not to dye goddamn leopard spots into your hair.”  There aren’t many a prioi “moves” beyond the nascent mic acrobatics.  I own 1/3 of those fucking posters.  I have friends who own the rest.  There is a 30-55% chance that that is the hottest girl they could rope into being in this video for free beer.  Dude on GTR 2 getting airborne is some straight Napoleon Dynamite shit in the best way possible.  The songwriting tropes here did get exploited into crabcore, but whatevs; there was some scrappy, inventive art at work here and, light fratmosphere aside, it kinda rules while feeling wounded and human at the same time.  Also, Adam is the rare vocalist who can sound like he’s conquering the world while still in the same frame as total frailty.

I LOVE THIS SONG. and this video, and this entire album. and adam/john dueling vocals, and john nolan in general, and cold septembers, and the good parts about high school, and seeing them live, and “come on, let’s just get this over with.” tell all your friends will always, always, always mean a lot more to me than it should.

I can still listen to this album all the way through and love every song on it. It’s incredible that it managed to capture exactly how I felt in high school and is still relevant to the way I feel now. Brand New’s Deja Entendu is the same way.

Man, I completely agree.  I hate emo music for the most part, BUT…tell all your friends was a pretty damn good album and Deja Entendu changed and shaped my entire senior year of high school.  I can still put that album in my cd player, listen to it all the way through, and feel the same way I felt senior year.
